This past weekend Frank Cusack, who runs a Pro Formula Mazda with World Speed Motorsports, was signed up to run his Formula E racecar in the SCCA opening weekend at Infineon. Unfortunately Cusack had a shunt in testing that left his FE unusable for the event.
“On the test day Frank asked me if we could get his PFM ready for the event and support him and we were happy to oblige,” stated World Speed President Telo Stewart. “We were already running two cars in the event, and adding Frank took a minimal amount of adjustment to make happen.”
Cusack did his best to pay the team back by setting his best personal lap time in qualifying. During the weekend the course had to be modified and the race session utilized IRL turn 11. “Frank did an excellent job getting back on the horse. He really took the race in the early going and fought and eventually took over the overall lead. Frank did an excellent job figuring out the modified turn 11 quickly, and drove a great race,” noted Team Manager John Olsen. “Frank was a pleasure to work with, and really is hungry to learn more. He used all of his resources, and really dug to find more time. What an exciting race!” This was Cusack’s first win in the FA class and he left the event as FA Championship points leader.
World Speed also supported Vince Gaddini, and Renny Damon at this event in the FA class and both drivers raced towards the front end of the group all weekend. In the end Gaddini made it to the FA podium finishing in third place, and Damon finished right behind him in fourth.
The World Speed Motorsports team is now gearing up for Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge round number five at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca which is an exclusive event held during the San Francisco Region Vintage Sports Car Festival on April 4th and 5th.
