WSM / Wolfe Auto Group #15 Driver Taylor Haquard
With a pair of Canadian drivers in their stable, World Speed Motorsports is gearing up for the upcoming trip across the border into Canada for rounds six and seven of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear on consecutive weekends in Trois-Riveres, Quebec and Bowmanville, Ontario.
Taylor Hacquard, pilot of the #15 Wolfe Auto Group World Speed Mazda, and Chris Cumming, driver of the #16 Inviro Medical World Speed Mazda, both call Vancouver, British Columbia home and are excited for the chance to race on their home soil for the first time this season.
“It’s always nice to come home,” Cumming explained. “Even though Vancouver is on the West Coast it will be exciting to race in front of our fellow Canadian citizens at a couple of the best racing venues in North America. Trois-Rivieres and Mosport both bring out the passionate racing fans and I think Taylor and I are both looking forward to the chance to perform for our countrymen.”
Hacquard, one of the youngest drivers in the highly competitive championship, currently sits ninth overall in points halfway through the season while Cumming finds himself in eleventh place overall and atop the Expert Series standings for drivers between the ages of thirty and forty five. After a challenging race this past weekend at Road America they are hoping to kick off the second half with strong results.
“Coming into Road America we were amped as Chris and I both had our best results of the season at the double race weekend in Portland,” Hacquard commented. “The weekend started with promise but the results weren’t what we hoped for as I got caught up in an incident on the opening lap that put me a lap down and then Chris slipped off the track and was unable to continue. The team has been working really hard and I think we are both looking to put this past weekend behind us and get back on track.”
The two Canadian rounds of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear start with the Grand Prix of Trois-Riveres, the oldest running road race in North America, on August 15-17, and then head west to the suburbs of Toronto and the Mosport circuit the following weekend.
