This past season, World Speed Motorsports (WSM) had a full race calendar with only one event rescheduled, had a great team of crew and drivers, and took home three championships. “We will look back on 2021 knowing that while COVID may not be fully behind us we were able to get back to some normalcy at the track,” said Team Principal Telo Stewart, “and we want to thank everyone who made that possible – partners, suppliers, crew and our series drivers and Turn-2 Club drivers!”
In off season the team is taking some time to get equipment, the shop, and at least one new F3 car ready for 2022, as well as making sure the driver lineup is in place. “This is the time to catch our breath and get ready for the next season, and we had a lot on our list for this off season,” mentioned Stewart, “including moving the shop closer to being the training facility we have wanted it to be.” The team is also considering driver options for the 2022 VMB Driver Development Scholarship and talking to potential drivers about that opportunity to round out the existing driver lineup.
In 2022 the team plans to again focus on the West Coast with multiple series as options including Formula Car Challenge, Formula Pro USA, and the SFR Formula Atlantic Championship.
- Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear
- Formula Pro USA
- SFR SCCA’s Formula Atlantic Championship
“Different series are a fit for different drivers,” said Operations Manager Jan Trojan, “and we work with our drivers to make sure we get them in the best one for their situation.” The SFR Atlantic series will be a focus for the team in 2022 given the addition of a Regional Class for both the Ligier F3/FR and the Star Race Cars PFM – FA2 and FA3 respectively will be new in 2022. FM and F4 were already SFR Regional Classes that fit within WSM’s operations, but the FA2 and FA3 classes round things out.
“It has always been a pleasure to work with the San Francisco Region of SCCA,” said Stewart, “for them to take these steps to continue the growth of open wheel on the West Coast is fantastic.” The team’s 2022 racing will start up again in February.
Race one for the Formula Car Challenge and Formula Atlantic Championships is February 26th at Sonoma Raceway. Race one for the Formula Pro USA Championships is March 19th at Thunderhill Raceway Park.
