FCC Drivers Battle it Out At Thunderhill Double Header
Points leaders after round four are Kyle Kaiser in Pro FM, Michael Whelden in FS2.0, and Bruce Carpenter and John Ertel are tied for first in Formula Mazda.
The Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear visited Thunderhill Raceway Park for a double header event this past weekend. The weather was beautiful all weekend with temperatures in the mid-70s, and mostly sunny skies.
After a morning test session the drivers got down to business. 2011 FCC Champion Lloyd Read took overall pole in PFM with a 139.70, Michael Whelden secured pole position in FS2.0 with a 148:99, and Kevin Rogers was fastest in FM with a 151:25.
“The weather turned out great, everyone is getting better, the level of competition is really stepping up, and there was a ton of great racing and several lead changes in race one,” stated Series Official Ben Hettema. At the front of the pack Kyle Kaiser was eventually able to get ahead of Lloyd Read for the overall win on Saturday, and Carpenter was able to get by Rogers for the FM win.

After winning overall on Saturday Kaiser took overall pole position with a time of 139:78. Whelden took the fast time in FS2.0 with a 147:64, and Rogers was on pole in FM with a 150:40.
Kaiser and Read battled at the front of the pack with Read ending up at the front at the checkered flag. Whelden was able to stay at the front of his class from the start, and first time FM winner John Ertel worked his was to the top step of the podium.
“It was great to have a long time racer like John Ertel on the top spot of the FM podium on Sunday,” noted Ben Hettema. “We all were celebrating this great achievement with him.”
“We brought home 7 trophies this weekend, which was highlighted by Kyle Kaiser’s win on Saturday and pole position on Sunday,” noted World Speed Motorsports Team Manager John Olsen. “We’re leading the Pro FM Championship, and are well ahead of some of the lofty goals we have for Kyle. This was really a great weekend for our entire team.”

The post weekend points tally shows Carpenter and Ertel currently tied in the FM championship, Kyle Kaiser leading in the Pro FM championship, and Michael Whelden leading the FormulaSPEED2.0 championship.
Races five and six of the West Coast Region Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear will take place at Infineon Raceway on June 16th-17th.
