ccChris Cumming back with the team that brought him back to back championships

From the outside it may look like business as usual for the World Speed Motorsports team as they test today in preparation for Rounds Eight and Nine in the Star Mazda presented by Goodyear Championship. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

“We were contacted last Thursday to run this event. By the end of the day on Friday we had a car from the WSM stable prepared to 2009 specifications and ready to be loaded in the trailer,” stated WSM Operations Manager Mark Milazzo. “It’s a two thousand mile drive to the Chicago area, and so by our estimates we needed a truck driver ready to leave in 24 hours. We got the green light that we were going, and flew our truck driver in from Pittsburgh. Everyone on the team picked up some of the responsibilities, and that’s how we were able to make something like this happen so quickly.”

This weekend the team is running a car for Chris Cumming who is currently fighting for the Expert Series championship. “We helped Chris win the 2007 Star Mazda West Coast Championship, and the 2008 Star Mazda presented by Goodyear Expert Series. It is our intention to do everything we can to secure a third consecutive title for him,” added Team Manager John Olsen.

The team will race this weekend, then pick up Cumming’s primary racing car on the trip back to headquarters. “It is really great to have Chris back under our tent,” stated Team Owner Telo Stewart. “We worked with him intensively throughout 2007 and 2008, and when you work that hard as a team it is like a family member moving away when they move to a competitor,” noted World Speed Motorsports President Telo Stewart. “We’re glad that we’ll have the family back together for some of the remaining races of 2009.”

Cumming has won multiple races and championships with the World Speed Motorsports team. Details on future races, and the 2010 season are expected in upcoming weeks.
