Chris began racing with World Speed Motorsports in 2006 in the Formula Car Challenge and Star Mazda West Coast Series and by the end of 2007 he was Star Mazda West Coast Champion.
In 2008 Cumming clinched the Star Mazda Expert Championship at the penultimate weekend at Road Atlanta. In 2009 Chris won the Star Mazda Expert Championship again, making it three major open wheel championships in a row.
This season Chris will be competing in the Platinum Cup Class of the Patron GT3 Challenge by Yokohama.
